Breeze Airways has made a name for itself by flying what it calls “underserved” routes, connecting cities like Burlington, Vt.; Fayetteville/Bentonville, Ark.; and Huntsville, Ala., to cities like Myrtle Beach, New Orleans and Phoenix.
Fares on Breeze are geared toward allowing customers to build their own ticket, with things like seat assignments, carry-on bags and checked bags available for purchase either bundled with the fare or as a la carte amenities that can be added on to the basic level of ticketing.
We’ve broken down the whole carry-on policy, so you know exactly what you’re getting when you book with Breeze.
There are four different ticket classes with Breeze Airways: No Flex Fare (the cheapest ticket), Nice, Nicer and Nicest, each of which includes a different number of bundled amenities.
Every ticket includes a personal item. But only Nice, Nicer and Nicest bundles include a free carry-on bag with the cost of the fare. Passengers who have booked a No Flex Fare will need to purchase a carry-on bag separately if they wish to bring one on board. It’s cheapest to add a bag while you’re booking — and doing so at the airport will be the most expensive option.
One caveat: Active-duty U.S. military members can bring one carry-on and two checked bags for free (just be sure to bring your I.D. to the airport). Those traveling on orders get one carry-on bag and up to five checked bags for free.
Breeze Airways’ carry-on restrictions allow for bags and small suitcases up to 22 inches x 14 inches x 9 inches, including handles and wheels. This fits the profile of most suitcases advertised as carry-on size, but if you’re not sure, it’s definitely worth measuring before you get to the airport to avoid surprises at the gate.
Here are our favorite bags that meet the Breeze Airways carry-on size requirements.
Away The Carry-On - $275 at Away
Away's The Carry-On is sturdy and reliable, and it's a good fit for standard overhead bins. In our review, we noted how well the bag helped us keep our belongings organized thanks to the zippered compartment and compression system.
Monos Carry-On - $255 at Monos
Monos is another brand we admire, and their carry-on is a perfect fit for Breeze Airways. We also reviewed (and loved) their Carry-On Pro, which is the same size as the standard carry-on but comes with a front pocket that's perfect for storing a laptop and any other essentials you might want to access mid-trip.
Travelpro Platinum Elite Softside Expandable Carry-On - $314.49 at Amazon
Personal items must fit under the seat in front of you, and Breeze Airways’s size restrictions for personal items are in line with other airlines at 17 inches x 13 inches x 8 inches. Most totes, purses, laptop bags, briefcases and standard-sized packages will meet Breeze Airways’ personal item restrictions. But as always, we recommend double-checking measurements before you start packing, and bear in mind that overstuffing soft-sided bags might put you over the size limit.
Here are a few of our favorite bags that fit the personal item guidelines:
Caraa Cirrus Medium - $228 at Caraa
Samsonite Foldaway Packable Tote Sling Bag - $30 at Amazon
BÉIS The Backpack - $88 at BÉIS
If you’re bringing your pet along with you on your adventure, there are a few things to keep in mind. Pet carriers count as your allowed carry-on item, so you’ll need to book a fare that includes a carry-on, or add a carry-on to your No Flex Fare.
Even though pet carriers count as your carry-on, they must adhere to the personal item dimensions, since the carrier needs to fit under the seat in front of you. This means pet carriers should be soft-sided and not exceed 17 inches x 13 inches x 8 inches.
Bringing your pet will also add a $75 charge to your ticket each way, and pets must weigh no more than 25 pounds — including the carrier.
Breeze Airways requires that carry-on bags weigh 35 pounds or less to ensure they can be lifted into the overhead bins without assistance.
TSA guidelines apply for liquids you bring with you in your carry-on. So if you’re bringing shampoo, moisturizer or any other creams, gels or liquids, make sure they adhere to the following:
